What is self-care? Does it mean retail therapy? Is it taking time off work or school to go on vacation? Does it require sitting around saying cloying affirmations on a meditation mat?!
The answer to these questions is…maybe?
What IS certain about self-care is that we all respond in our own way when someone tells us it’s time to do more self-care. There have been times in my life when I resented someone for telling me to engage in more of it.
“I’m just trying to keep my head above water- I don’t have time for self-care!”
Other times, it seems like self-care is something promoted by people trying to sell stuff.
“Come to the spa- you deserve it!”
As a result of my career burnout, I have learned the hard way that self-care is a really important part of maintaining health. But I’ve also learned that it doesn’t need to add stress or drain your finances!
